Massage is one of the oldest healing arts. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use. Massage Therapy is the oldest form of medical care. It has proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, depression, fibromyalgia and more. And, as so many of us already know, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.
We use the follow massage techniques at the Leslie McCallum SalonSpa:
Swedish
A full body massage with long, smooth strokes, with light to medium pressure. This technique is used for relaxation, stress release and to improve muscle tone.
Deep Tissue Massage
This specialized massage is intended to release chronic tension by working the deeper layers of muscle. The technique is used to increase circulation, improving muscular health and decrease pain.
Raindrop Therapy
This therapy is a feathering, light massage of many essential oils layered along the spine and back which are absorbed by moist heat. It is used to invigorate, enhance well-being, encourage emotional clearing and detoxify the body.
Neuromuscular Therapy
This massage treats chronic pain caused by injury, strain, sprain or stress. Using deep, concentrated trigger point therapy, it realigns collagen fibers, breaks up scar tissue, and decreases muscle spasms.
Chair Massage
This brief treatment focuses on the neck and back area using a massage chair and is done fully clothed. It is used to decrease stress, and rejuvenate.
Hot Stone Massage
Stone massage uses heated stones to massage the body. Basalt stones of various sizes, shapes and weights are used throughout and heated in water. The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increase the blood flow to the area being worked on which further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation and the relaxation of the muscles also aids in mental relaxation.
CranioSacral Therapy
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, restrictions are released in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
Almost anyone -- from infants to seniors -- can enjoy the benefits of a good massage.
